Biodiesel

“I got on the computer and punched in biodiesel and found out this could be the future.” - Willie Nelson

Thus far, I’ve ran over a 100 gallons of homemade biodiesel through my pickup, and it’s working great. No pollution. Only 65 cents per gallon to make it. Hope to have our entire farm running on it by next year as farm diesel fluctuates around $2.50 per gallon, and I’m sure will soon hit $4/gallon by the end of the year.

Biodiesel may very well be American agriculture’s saving grace. Somebody tell me why we haven’t started working on this before. It’s time for farmers to start solving some of our problems ourselves.

One gallon of fossil fuel releases 20 pounds of carbon into the atmosphere. That is dramatic. It is catastrophic to our planet. The pollutant fuel we’ve been producing, purchasing, and using for almost a century is the most un-natural form of fuel we could possibly utilize on Mother Earth. The supply is nearing the end. How many billion people and counting? How many gallons does it take to run an entire planet? You do the math. I haven’t the stomach (or the mathematical attention span) for it.

Farmers can help turn not only this country but this entire planet around. We have the land, the equipment, the knowledge of how to raise crops like maize, corn, and any other vegetable-based oil seed to supply America’s fuel supply. Why go to war with Iraq or Iran? Why risk lives over fuel we can grow on our family farms? War is never about what they tell us it is about. Take the profit out of war, you have no war. Take our country’s fuel dilemma into our own hands and we have no dilemma.
Co-ops are beginning to form in cotton gins and other mills across the country, especially the Midwest. We can grow thousands of tons of milo/maize right here in West Texas every year. It is our future. It is our saving grace. We cannot allow more corporations to take over the biodiesel and ethanol markets. WE must take the time, money, and energy to do it ourselves. Let’s be in control of our future for once. Visit the National Biodiesel Board website or do a search on biodiesel and/or ethanol. Let’s clean up Mother Earth and grow our own fuel!
